The United States-Korea Free Trade Agreement signed in 2011 allowed South Korea to become an ideal target for many food and agricultural products. South Korea has turned increasingly to food imports to satisfy its consumers' demands for greater food variety, lower prices, and convenience. In 2010, Koreans bought $5.3 billion in agricultural products, becoming the United States’ fifth largest agricultural export market and are ranked amongst the world’s 20 largest economies.
